Emirates Team New Zealand Sets Sail in Social Media

grant-blog

So today is my very first blog which puts into question the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. I used to think email was hard enough, now I am part of a new on-line community and you know what, it’s pretty cool.

When I first met Andy Lark who introduced the team to Dell, as well as talking fast machines and server power he talked to me about this whole new world of social media – facebook, twitter, blogs, online communities and to be honest I glazed over – not only did I have no idea of what he was talking about but I never thought it was something that we could achieve given the immense pressures we are already under in terms of the “to do” list.

But in a few short months with the help of Dell and huge amount of work from RD2 Inc, an amazing group of people based in Dallas who have so much enthusiasm and passion for this medium of communication, I have been completely transformed. Well nearly. Actually I am only just beginning but I can see that I can get there!

What gets me so excited about the blog is that it gives us the ability to really engage with the people who support us at all levels. From the sponsors and suppliers of the team who we can’t live without to the young upcoming sailors who are one day going to take my place.

So as we launch today come and join our community, have a look around, send us your comments, thoughts and questions. Let us know what you want to see more of and where we can improve – there will be some bugs as we start out so don’t be too hard on us!

I hope you enjoy being a part of the family.

Grant

  4. Congrats on the blog – looks dead sexy and the shots of the boats on the Med bring back good memories.

From one St Kents old boy to another Grant I think you mean “can’t teach an old SEA dog new tricks”.

Anyway, looking forward to the updates.

  7. Awesome work Grant, good to see the team getting in touch with us fans, esp when we are being abused being TVNZ over the ACWS schedule!

If there’s one thing that I really would like to see it would be a range of cool wallpapers mo PCs and mobile devices! you had some cool ones for the ’07 cup and they are now MIA.

Look forward to seeing the first batch of blogs go up!

  9. Great to see the team online, and blogging, it really isn’t that hard is it. I am sure we are going some exciting photos and up to date information.

Here in Australia we don’t get much news from the main stream media about ETNZ so with something like this I can be totally up to date.

Now all I need to do is to put the RSS feed into my reader and the news will delivered automatically . This is brilliant thanks to the team.

  10. This really is great…I’m sure with all the work going on to get ready for the cup this is a “distraction” you don’t necessarily add to an already overwhelming schedule. However, for those of us that are fans, this is an amazing way to not only get a better insight into the team we love, but to actually is a smallest of ways feel more apart of something that is happening a world away for most of us. Thank you Emirates Team New Zealand for taking this step! Can’t wait to see all that you have planned, and take the cup back where it belongs! :)

  15. A very nice site. Thank you for starting something where us Kiwis and the worldwide supporters can see what is going on with all the different aspects of TNZ!
I didn’t find an online store (if you have one) where we can show support for the team. That would be great.
and thank you guys for showing the rest of the world that if you work hard you can achieve almost anything.
Good luck with all the racing in the future. We look forward to seeing Camper come in to Auckland leading the race :-) and ETNZ bringing the Americas Cup back to NZ.

  16. Hi Grant,
Great job so far with both the AC team and the Volvo.

I would love to see more on the people behind the scenes – the designers, engineers… Pics and profiles. Give us more of an update on how the details are going along behind the scenes without giving away the secrets. Also, more shots of the gear. Why your V70 is better that the others.

Great choices on putting together the team, BTW. M&M are brilliant. Let Pete drive the 72.
No one can drive a cat as fast as him. The Swedes have to be saying “uh oh, what were we thinking.” I mean, it is a multihull regatta.

  18. Well done Grant and to all of you at ETNZ,
exactly in line with the great sailing you have done thes past months especially in AC: you are comitted to excellence. Typical Kiwi state of mind, grand example to follow.

pierre from France, and a fan of TNZ since Freemantle and the day Nick Holroyd granted me with an interview at the HDQS in AKL.
